The Municipality of Mett-Oberschlatt lies on the eastern slope of the Kohlfirst and, as the canton’s most westerly municipality, its wooded backcountry borders the Zurich District. The name “Slate” was first mentioned around 858 and roughly translates as marsh or swamp. Numerous Stone Age, Bronze Age, Celtic and Roman discoveries indicate that the area was already settled, even in pre-historic times.
The former Municipality of Unterschlatt includes – as well as the village Unterschlatt – the sub-district of Dickihof in the southeast, the former Paradies monastery and the Neu-Paradies industrial settlement, which emerged in the 19th and 20th centuries.
